Our Origins
How it started…
The college was founded by Mr Soondur Persad Munrakhun on 8th January 1956. It was initially named Long Mountain College 1956 and then renamed as Soondur Munrakhun College in 1969 to date. Moreover, the motto of the institution has always been: "Knowledge is power". The primary aim to serve the inhabitants of Long Mountain and surrounding villages. It started to operate with two classes only, Form I and Form II with 30 and 10 pupils respectively at the premises of Siva Soopramanien Darooma Sangham Temple.

Through the Decades
Our History
1959
A New Home
The college was moved to another building known as Jhowry's shop. Gradually, the number of students increased and another department was opened on the premises of Long Mountain Hindi Bhawan.
1960
Community Roots
The college was then shifted to the premises of the Long Mountain Co-Operative Society and in 1961, four more classes were added to cope with the increase in the number of pupils having passed their sixth standard.
1961–1962
First Examinations
The students sat for the school certificate examinations for the first time. Science subjects were introduced and a fully equipped laboratory was also set up.
1963–1969
Growth & Loss
The teaching staffs increased from two to seven. 1969 marked the death of Mr Soondur Persad Munrakhun. The college was renamed Soondur Munrakhun College in his honour.
1970
Expansion
A new department was built to accommodate a greater number of students seeking admission. Scholarships were also offered to high fliers of all forms.
1971–2015
The Modern Era
After Mr Praveen Munrakhun, Mr Deobruth Juggurnauth was appointed as Rector. The school has a total of 5 departments, 50 teaching staffs, 20 non-teaching staffs, 25 classrooms, 12 specialised rooms and a total of 761 students.
